There are so many different areas unrecovered funds originate from. Some common ones are overpayments, unpresented cheques, dormant bank accounts, superannuation, insurance policies, investments and securities, rental bonds, council bonds, deceased estates, lottery winnings and many more.

WHAT ARE THE LEGALITIES REGARDING UNRECOVERED FUNDS?
We are bound by law to ensure the money we recover is rightfully yours and we are required to identify you as the rightful owner of your claim to lost money. We must also ensure once your funds have been successfully refunded, they are deposited into your nominated bank account. The laws in place to protect you and your unrecovered funds include The Unclaimed Money Act 1962, The Privacy Act 1988 and The Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006, which makes it an offence to provide false or misleading information/documentation to Holding Authorities and Government Departments.
HOW CAN I PROVE MY LEGAL OWNERSHIP OF UNRECOVERED FUNDS?
Each of the various organisations we deal with have different requirements regarding supporting documentation, however all require:

WHAT IS A CERTIFIED COPY OF A DOCUMENT?
A certified copy is a photocopy of an original document that has been signed as a “true and correct copy” by a Justice of the Peace, pharmacist, doctor, dentist, veterinary surgeon, bank manager, state school principal, solicitor, or police officer.
Australia Post also offer this service at most of their offices. Certified copies are required by most holding authorities to ensure document pertaining to a claim are legitimate.
When presenting your documents for certification, you must present both the original documents and the photocopies your requesting to have certified.
WHAT IS REQUIRED TO ENLIST THE SERVICE OF MISSING MONEY AUSTRALIA?
We require a signed Authority to Release form, which is included in our initial letter to you. This signed form is a legal document, required to enable Missing Money Australia to recover your funds.
ARE THERE ANY UPFRONT FEES FOR SUBMITTING MY CLAIM?
No, we do not charge any upfront or hidden fees. Once we have successfully recovered your funds, our agreed fee is deducted, with the balance deposited directly into your nominated bank account. A Paid Tax Invoice is issued within 7 days.
If we are unsuccessful at recovering your funds, Missing Money Australia’s service is FREE.
HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY PROCESS?
Once your required documentation is received by Missing Money Australia, we will commence the recovery of your funds.
Successful claims generally take between 4 - 6 weeks, however this may vary, depending on the organisation holding your funds.
